Arby’s Employee Fired for Escaping Robbery Attempt

An assistant manager from an Arby’s franchise in Dayton, Ohio was fired for escaping from a robbery attempt.

Here is the scenario:

The assistant manager was alone after closing the store.  The last co-worker had just left, the doorbell rang.  Thinking it was the co-worker returning, she opened the door.  To her surprise, it wasn’t the co-worker but someone wielding a knife demanding money.  She fought him as best she could and finally, was able to flee through the drive-thru window.

You would have thought that survival was a good thing.  She came back the next day and was giving her pink slip.  Arby’s reasoning…she violated a company rule “at least two employees are to be on duty at any time.”  She was told that this was her second violation of this rule and she was fired.

In her defense, she says that this was the third time that an attempt was made to rob the place.  And, the franchisee never bothered to put up alarms or cameras.

So, what is wrong with this picture? Why is a rule more important than a life?  Why does safety come in second place to profit?  So many questions but no real answers.  Makes you wonder…hmmm.
