Dayton Art Institute Announces Summer Project Renovation Plan
The Dayton Art Institute has announced plans for a summer renovation project that combines The Café and The Museum Store. The renovation will provide a more open floor plan to create more of a community gathering space.
This plan will combine the existing Museum Store, 5/3 Private Dining Room and The Café into a new open area. This new space will allow The Café to remain open independently from the museum with greater visibility and opportunities for wine tastings and food events. This will also allow greater visibility and increase traffic for The Museum Store. Wi-Fi, thanks to a federal grant received in 2011, will be available in the new space and throughout the museum galleries. With these new changes, the new space may not only appeal to regular museum visitors but also to young professionals, students, artists and Downtown residents who are looking for more entertainment venues closer to home.
Construction will begin when the current special exhibition Changing Landscapes closes on June 17th. The new space is slated to open for the beginning of Oktoberfest on September 21st. The temporary location of the Café and The Museum Store will be downstairs, off the special exhibition galleries during the renovation period.
